I should preface this by saying that, in my profession as a teacher-trainer, I have the privilege of working with many current and future educators. Devin Weckstein is truly a remarkable teacher. He has worked with both of my children (ages 4 and 10 at the time), and I have been consistently impressed by his skill, creativity, and versatility.

Each child is different, and it has been rewarding to watch Devin thoughtfully adapt to the unique learning styles and needs of each student. He knows how to connect with my four-year-old on her level—whether that means getting off the piano bench to march around the room to develop a sense of pulse, drawing note shapes on the board, singing in solfege to strengthen her ear, or placing stickers all over the music. He balances playfulness and seriousness seamlessly, responding intuitively to each moment.

With my older child—who loves to go off on tangents—Devin is a master of gentle redirection. He has selected beautiful, original, and developmentally appropriate repertoire that truly engaged my son. He also introduced him to jazz and improvisation, and even taught him how to write and transpose his own arrangements of the music he wanted to play. When my son became curious about the mechanics of the piano, Devin went above and beyond, scheduling extra time to take apart the instrument and explain how it worked.

Devin Weckstein is one of the most dedicated, creative, and inspiring teachers I have encountered. I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend him.
